Age of the baby: Infant under 12 months. (observation done for a girl baby near my residence). Girl baby is 11 months child.
Rooting reflex: This is the very first reflex that starts when the baby's mouth is touched. The baby turns her head and opens her mouth to follow the root in the direction of our touching. By which, the baby could find the breast of the mom to have feeding. This started on the day of her first breast fed and would last for about 2 to 3 months.
Moro reflex: This reflex makes the baby to cry or laugh, turn her head for a sound or clap, stretches her arms and legs to some sounds. She turns her head when she wanted to see something at the back of her head when you are holding her on your lap. This reflex started when she was about 3 months old.
Grasping reflex: If you touch the baby's hand when it is open, she started closing her fingers on her own. She was doing when she was about 5 to 6 months.
Walking/Stepping: This appears when the baby was held upright to start trying to walk or try to walk or step to dance. This started by the end of 10 month and beginning of 11 month.
Babinski: This occurred when you touch the baby's foot while applying oil massage to baby. This would make the baby to move her toes upward and downward.
Tonic-neck: This reflex would happen when the baby reaches the age of 6 months. This is moving the elbows on another side while head is on one side; stretching out you can say.
In all the above reflexes, the baby's development is typical. The term typical refers to the actual and gradual development of the child is in the right way and nothing is abnormal here. During the first year of a newborn baby, the baby's growth speed is tremendous. The weight of the baby would increase to double by the months of 5 or 6, and it would be thrice on the day of birth by the end of 10 or 11 months. When this baby was born, she was 3.5 kg, but by the month end of 5, she reached 6.72 kg, and at the end of the 10 months, she gained some more weight and reached the 9.5 kg. Her weight is also typical here. Her development has been marked then and there and it shows a typical marking in her chart.
MOTOR DEVELOPMENT CHART: This chart has been marked either by the mom or by the pediatrician while going for monthly check ups of the baby. This includes sucking, listening to our voice, tapping legs for music, laughing on looking some funny activities around her, able to hold a spoon or a paper or a toy properly, hold her water bottles, trying to say bla, bla, bla and single words, trying to walk using a walker, able to sit properly without support, showing her laughing face to new people around the house, enjoys on seeing balloons, funny activities, listening to cartoons and rhymes, etc. For this baby, it shows the gradual incremental graph starting from her birth to 11 months.
Sensory capacity of the child: This shows how active the child is sensory wise.
Touch and Pain: If you touch the baby softly and gently, it would smile or turn her head on your side. If you pinch her, she would start crying because of the pain. Here, this baby could do it properly for both.
Smell and Taste: Whenever I make her food, she could smell it very nicely and could crawl near her eating place and could wait for me to come to feed her. Due to the taste of the food, she will eat it obediently without making any problems. While feeding her, I used to make her sit on her chair and she wanted to say me an interesting story. So, by the end of the story, she would complete her food.
Hearing: She is very much interested in listening to stories and rhymes. She enjoys a lot on watching me doing some funny noises like a dog, cat, cow, etc. and activities (running like a rabbit, walking like a horse, etc).
Site: She is very much interested in going out in the evening to nearby park, where she has so many friends ranging from her age to old age people. She enjoys showing her giggling face to everyone she knows. This is a daily routine activity of her.
All the capacities of the baby I observed are very normal and up to her age. The ability of the baby is more appropriate to her age. She is able to understand the concept of eating, playing, listening, making noise to convey us (either by crying or telling ah, bla, single words like ma, pa, etc.). All these are typical to her age.
LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT: By the end of 9 months, she started telling bla, bla, and by the end of 10 month, she started saying amma, papa, mama, ka, pa, etc. Whenever she wanted something, she will call others around her by making noise. She listens to the story everytime I say to her. When you are calling her by name, she responds very quickly. When she is in the walker, she could come directly to me very quickly and dashes me with the walker, when I am doing some other job and not listening to her. All these are very well appropriate to her age.
SEPARATION ANXIETY AND STRANGER ANXIETY: When I am not in her room, when she is awake; she will start crying loudly to call me. When I just show my head to the room, or saying something to her, she stops crying. This is actually a typical example of separation anxiety. When we gone out for a trip, she was seeing some strangers near her; she looked at me blankly and started holding my hand very tightly. Once upon a time (may be by 8 months), when she was happened to be alone at the cradle, one nanny came to see her and took her from the cradle; she started crying very loudly, to get my attention. When I reached the place and got her back, the crying was gone. Her development is normal and correct to her age.
In this age, the child wanted to see new things more. She enjoys watching new people around her. She enjoys going out with parents or friends. She enjoys watching cartoons. She enjoys listening to rhymes with action. She enjoys eating different tastes mostly sweets, chocolates, and even ice creams. She enjoys playing with toys. She shows her face differently to different things, like anger, shyness, happiness, fear, etc.
