Question

Return to Site (3 of 5) Using the data shown in the graph below determine which statement is correct. 100 0 Kd Kd 10 LI (uM) O The protein shown in binding curve B has a greater affinity for its ligand as compared to the protein shown in binding curve A. OIf the IL] were 1 uM the percent saturation of A would be greater than B. O The percent saturation of A is expected to be greater than B at all [L]. O B has a lower affinity for its ligand, relative to A, and is therefore never expected to reach 100% saturation. 0 If [L] were to double it is expected that Y would also double at all points along the curve.

Answer #1

Ans : B has a lower affinity for its ligand , relative to A and is therefore never expected to reach 100% saturation.

The curve in right i.e. B has lower affinity for its ligand , due to which it dissociates easily , and hence has a lower percent dissociation , whereas the curve on left , i.e. A curve has higher affinity towards its ligand , and hence lesser percent saturation.

Question 1 (1 point) Vasoconstriction occurs when epinephrine (adrenaline) binds to the a-adrenergic receptor on vascular smooth muscle cells. One way to treat high blood pressure is to administer competitive inhibitors that bind to this receptor. The Kd for binding of epinephrine to this receptor is ~UM. Based on the measured affinity (Kd) of the following drugs for the a-adrenergic receptor, which might be good candidates for high blood pressure medication? Drug A: Kd = 0.6 M; Drug B: Kd...
