What is the most important characteristic of a positive and effective workplace learning environment? Why is this characteristic significant to you?
The most important characteristics of a business workplace environment showing a positive and effective learning environment can be considered to be the following:
1. Presence of effective leadership
Though not directly correlated, the presence of effective
leadership shows that the company values what a leader does to
bring out the best in an employee.
2. Respect and values are present
In order to make sure that learning takes place efficiently, a
workplace environment needs to show that it holds on to its values
and there is respect amongst the people because learning can be
hindered in the presence of arrogance, ego, or lack of respect.
3. Encouragement and enablement
Encouraging management provides the necessary ingredient for the
environment to be more catered to learning.
4. Future orientation and investment
A company that invests in the future of its employees such as
through sponsored learning and creative programs becomes the
incubator for a high degree of productivity and efficiency.
Amongst these characteristics, I believe that management’s outlook
is the most important. The fact that the company needs to balance
growth, productivity, output, and learning means that the
management needs to more closely associate with the process of
learning. If the management is encouraging, allowing its employees
to take risks in order for them to learn by being creative, shows
that the management values their growth and have an active role in
the process of learning, which represent a more holistic view when
we measure the effectiveness of a positive and efficient learning
environment.
