The claim is that "the presence of high percentages of elderly residents in a school district associates with lower per-pupil expenditure".

From the above graph, we note that

• As we see that the number of people over 60 is increasing the per-pupil expenditure is decreasing. The regression line is sloping downwards (graph on the left).
• The box plot of per-pupil expenditure is very narrow and symmetrical when compared to the width of the lof of age over 60 boxplots which shows that the values are very close in agreement with each other and variation in the expenditure is less compared to the age-range variation.
