In Networks, external electromagnetic signals can cause incorrect delivery of data. Data can be lost or unwanted data can be generated.

Network should be design in such a way to prevent, detect and detect the error in transmission.

For example if more then two signals are transmitting through nonlinear device then and if bymistake they interact with each-other in ways, that can produce additional signals such as harmonic or subharmonic of the input signals and ffrequency of these resultant component can be inside or outside the band of interest for a particular device. if they lies outside the band of interest then it can create noise. this kind of error is called intermodulation noise which is an example of transmission.
