Ethnographic studies studies involves study of smaller group of people or a tribe or it could be an individual in a natural setup. The ethnographic studies are carried out to understand the day to day life activities with respect to socio-political, historical context. The main features of ethnographic studies are:

  • Ethnographic studies are carried out in natural setup in the most natural conditions.
  • The main methods of study involves natural observation, face-to-face interview which are normally informal and unstructured.
  • Ethnographic studies involve the active interaction and participation of the individuals who are studied.
  • It is more a discovery of information and knowledge than stating hypothesis and proving it.
  • The data is analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • The interpretation of results depends upon the perspective of the researcher involved in the study and is interpreted from the cultural viewpoint.
