Q1) Select all of the following categories of proteins which are made (synthesized by the Rough ER).

1) Secreted Proteins (like hormones, neutotransmitters)

2) Proteins integrated into a cell’s own plasma membrane

3) Proteins integrated into a cell’s own intracellular membranes (such as the Gogli, vesicles)

4) Proteins that are dissolved in a cell’s own cytosol

Answer #1

PROTEINS WHICH ARE SYNTHESIZED BY THE ROUGH ER ARE:

1. Secreted Proteins (like hormones, neuro transmitters)

2. Proteins integrated into a Cell's Own plasma membrane.

These proteins need to be active from their destined organelle, like hormones need to work from endocrine glands, neurotransmittors from brain.

but the proteins which are in cytosol will be synthesized by smooth ER.

Please answer letter B! 1. (1.5 pts) Entering the ER: Translocation of proteins across the membrane of the ER is usually studied using microsomes (vesicles made from rough endoplasmic reticulum. Microsomes of the rough ER carry ribosomes attached to their outer surface. Translocation of proteins across the microsomal membrane can be assessed by several experimental criteria: (1) the newly synthesized protein is protected from added proteases, but not when detergents are present to solubilize the protecting lipid bilayer; (2) the...
