It is reasonable to assume water enters the pump in radial direction. The electromotors available at the company inventory are all single speed 960 rpm motors. Technical drawings of the initial phase of design is on the wall. The wheel has a blade angle of 55° with tangential direction at exit. Initial lab test shows the pump can deliver around 0.25 ft/s if the rotational speed is 960 rpm. The only problem is that it is not certain that the power on the electromotor nameplates can be sufficient for this wheel. Your co-worker, who graduated from University of Texas at Austin, believes he has to order a torque meter or a velocity measuring device for the pump exit to find the power in the lab to check if motors in the inventory can be used for this pump. You, as a smart and capable OSU engineer trained in turbomachinery, think there might be an easier way to find this out. 0-0.25 ft3 Could you calculate or estimate the power required for this pump with the available information [W] or [hp]?
