Answer #1

1.To create a stratified sample by column, we pick three quiz scores randomly from each column.

Hence the stratified sample of 18 quiz scores will be,

9, 8, 9, 10 ,8, 5, 10, 9, 9, 5, 7, 9, 8, 7, 8, 6, 7,4

2. To create a cluster sample by picking two of the columns randomly where column numbers are one through six.

Hence the cluster sample will be,

1st Cluster : 9, 8, 10, 7, 6, 9

2nd Cluster: 8, 7, 4, 6, 9, 8

3. 50 random number values between zero and one are as follows:

0.2137   0.3283   0.9776   0.1169   0.7169

0.9735   0.5649   0.7303   0.7479   0.2456

0.3178   0.3706   0.0514   0.5176   0.0966

4. Descriptive statistics for above random numbers,

  • Sample mean :

  N X X į = 1 N

= 0.4918

  • Sample Standard deviation:

S = (x - x) N - 1

= 0.3102

  • First quartile:

  Q1 = xy + z(xy + 1 - Xy)

= 0.2147

y truncated integer value of w
w N + 1 4
z fraction component of w that was truncated
xj jth observation in the list of sample data, ordered from smallest to largest
  • Third quartile:

  Q3 = xy + z(xy + 1 - Xy)

= 0.7429

y truncated value of w
w

3(N + 1) 4

z fraction component of w that was truncated away
xj jth observation in the list of sample data, ordered from smallest to largest
  • Median:

Median = the middle value of a set of ordered data.

= 0.5227
