Answer #1

Solution

Given, x = 353, n= 900 ,

Claim: The proportion of college students who text while driving is greater than 34%.

#a) p0 =0.34

#b)Null hypothesis H0 : p= 0.34

#c)Alternative hypothesis H1 : p > 0.34 (claim)

Test statistics:

z = P P4 71

Where,

#d) x = 353

#e) n= 900

f = r / n  = 353 / 900 = 0.3922

#f) 0.39

Z = \frac{(0.3922-0.34)}{\sqrt\frac{(0.34*0.66)}{900}}

#g) zo = 3.31

Test statistic z = 3.31

P –Value = 0.000466

As this is one tail test

#h) α = 0.005

#i) zc = Critical value based on α = 0.005

Z0.0025 = 2.807

We have right tail test, critical region is rightmost of 0.05%

j) Zo is greater than zc

k) We reject H0

l) This is a right tailed test

m) One

n) does

o) Proportion
