Answer #1

Step 1) Define hypothesis:

Claim: The proportion of college students who text while driving is greater than 34%.

#a) p0 =0.34

#b)Null hypothesis H0 : p= 0.34

#c)Alternative hypothesis H1 : p > 0.34 (claim)

Step 2) Find Test statistics:

z = P P4 71

Where,

#d) x = 353

#e) n= 900

f = r / n  = 353 / 900 = 0.3922

#f) 0.39

z = 0.3922 0.34 (2.3440.66) 900

#g) z = 3.31

Test statistic z = 3.31

Step 3) Find P –Value

As this is one tail test

#h) α = 0.0005

#i) zc = Critical value based on α = 0.0005

We have right tail test, critical region is rightmost of 0.05%

Using Z table

100 01 02 03 04 105 06 JOB ICS 0.0 5000 5040 SOP) 0.1 5398 548 5478 02 5793 582 5871 03 5 15217 6255 04 6554 6591.6628 05 691

Zc = 3.29

Step 4) Conclusion:

As test statistic 3.31 is greater than critical value 3.29 at level of significance =0.0005, We reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is enough evidence to support the claim that the proportion of college students who text while driving is greater than 34%.
