Answer #1

The correct answer is third option (father: peach pepper and mother orange pepper)

It is clear from the question that

  • Y gene codes for Peach color
  • C gene codes for Orange color

As the presence of color is a dominant trait, At least one dominant allele is necessary for producing color. In recessive condition for any of the two allele (yy or cc) no color will be produced.

For red colored phenotype atleast one dominant alleles of both the genes (C and Y) must be present.

Now, The genotype of pollen grains producing plant (i.e., Father) is Yycc. Here, one dominant Y is present which will give peach color to the pepper. As both alleles of C gene are recessive, no orange color will be visible. Hence, the phenotype of father will be Peach pepper.

Similarly flower producing plant has a genotype of yyCc where only C gene has one dominant allele hence, phenotype of mother will be Orange pepper.

Option first is incorrect: Father does not have any dominant C gene hence, father can not show phenotype of orange pepper.

Option second is incorrect: For red pepper phenotype of mother, both genes must have atleast one -one dominant allele. Hence, this option is incorrect.

Option fourth is incorrect: For red pepper phenotype of father, both genes must have atleast one -one dominant allele. Hence, this option is incorrect.
