\bar{x}=137,\sigma=14,n=150

the null hypothesis:-

H_{0}:\mu=138

the alternative hypothesis:-

H_{1}:\mu\neq138

the type of test statistic = z statistic

the value of the test statistic is :-

Z=\frac{\bar{x}-\mu}{\sigma/\sqrt{n}}=\frac{137-138}{14/\sqrt{150}}\approx \mathbf{-0.875}

the two critical values are -1.96 and 1.96

[ z critical values for 95% confidence level, both tailed test = 1.96 ]

NO, we can not conclude that the population mean adult sodium level differs from that claimed by the laboratory.

[ z calculated = -0.875 > -1.96 , we fail to reject the null hypothesis.]
