Answer #1

Sample mean for the Sample 1 is, m1 = 409.083 and for the Sample 2 is, m2 = 353.5

The pooled standard deviation is given by Sp = 45.41922

Therefore the confidence interval is given by ( (m1 - m2) - t Sp\sqrt{\frac{1}{n_{1}}+\frac{1}{n_{2}}} , (m1 - m2) + t Sp\sqrt{\frac{1}{n_{1}}+\frac{1}{n_{2}}} )

The value of t for 80% confidence level and degrees of freedom n1 + n2 -2= 22 is t = 1.321

Therefore the confidence interval for the difference between the two population means is given by ( 31.09 ,  80.08 ) (rounded to two decimal points)

Construct the indicated confidence interval for the difference between the two population means. Assume that the two samples are independent simple random samples selected from normally distributed populations. Do not assume that the population standard deviations are equal. Independent samples from two different populations yield the following data. x1 = 958, x2 = 157, s1 = 77, s2 = 88. The sample size is 478 for both samples. Find the 85% confidence interval for ?1 - ?2.

Assume that the two samples are independent simple random samples selected from normally! distributed populations. Also assume that the population standard deviations are equal (0, 0), so that the standard error of the difference between means is obtained by pooling the sample variances. The outputted numbers be aligned in a table with 10 numbers per row. Each column in the table should be 5 characters wide. Do not nest a loop inside of another loop.
