Metaphase

This stage is metaphase as it is clearly seen that all the chromosomes which are divided into chromatids come to lie on the equatorial plate present at the centre. Chromatids are held together by the centromere. The whole web is formed by the spindle fibres which arise from centrioles. The centromere is the point of attachment of the kinetochore, a protein structure that is connected to the spindle fibres
