A researcher wants to estimate the difference between the proportions of users of two shampoos who are satisfied with the product. In a sample of 400 users of Fancy Pants Shampoo taken by this researcher, 78 said they are satisfied. In another sample of 500 users of Smooth Operator Shampoo taken by the same researcher, 92 said they were satisfied.

We are going to test if we can conclude that the proportion of Fancy Pants users who are satisfied is different from the proportion of Smooth Operator users who are satisfied with the product.

a. Define the relevant parameters and state the hypotheses. [3pts]

b. Find the observed sample statistic, pooled proportion, and the test statistic. Use proper notation for the sample statistic ( x or p ˆ ), and clearly identify your test statistic as either a z-score or a t-score. [4pts]

c. Find the p-value of your test statistic. You are required to graph the test statistic on its corresponding distribution, shade the appropriate area, and provide correct calculator documentation. Box final answer. [3pts]

d. Make a generic decision about H0 . [2pts]

f. Make a conclusion in the context of the problem. [2pts]

g. Construct a 99% confidence interval for the difference between proportion of Fancy Pants users and Smooth Operator users who are satisfied with the product. [5 pts]

h. Provide an interpretation of your interval in the context of the data. [2pts]

    4. At a local high school, the juniors and seniors compete to see who has a better average on a statistics test. Ten randomly selected junior had an average of 38.0 points with a standard deviation of 2.9 and 14 randomly selected seniors had an average of 31.2 points with a standard deviation of 6.2. Assume both populations follow a normal distribution. We want to perform a test to see if on average juniors perform better on the test. You...

An online clothing retailer knows that historically 20% of potential customers that visit its website actually buy something. To see if they can increase the proportion of visitors who buy something, they randomly select 1000 visitors to the website and offer them free shipping if they make a purchase. Of the 1000 visitors who receive this offer, 230 actually buy something. The company wants to test to see if offering free shipping to all customers would increase the proportion who...

A researcher wants to determine whether high school students who attend an SAT preparation course score significantly different on the SAT than students who do not attend the preparation course. For those who do not attend the course, the population mean is 1050 (? = 1050). The 16 students who attend the preparation course average 1200on the SAT, with a sample standard deviation of 100. On the basis of these data, can the researcher conclude that the preparation course has...

    21) A researcher wants to know whether there is a difference in the physical activity level of children during the morning and afternoon. He observes a total of 40 children (20 boys and 20 girls) from randomly selected schools during morning and afternoon recess and gives each child a score (out of 50) based on how much of the time they spend sitting, standing, walking or running. Each child receives a score in the morning and another in the afternoon....
