When DNA is exposed to any radiations or chemicals the bases in the DNA gets damaged mostly the single base in the strand and undergoes 1)hydrolytic delamination*2)oxidation 3) alkylation -more predominantly hydrolytic deamination

The damaged DNA usually is repaired by base excision. Repair mechanism by specific protein enzymes

DNA gycosylase- recognizes the damaged base,

AP enonuclease-recognizes the missing base site(AP site) and creates Nick in phosphodiester bond

DNA polymerase - insertion of base at AP site

DNA ligase- seals the nick - and the damaged base due to delamination is repaired

THe inability to repair to these damaged DNA may lead to mutations and may cause cancer

a) the unusual about this persons DNA is the bases which are present in the DNA like cytosine,adenine,guanine,thymine are replaced by Uracil,hypoxanthine and xanthine respectively which are not usually present in the DNA

b)The proteins/enzymes or non functional in this person are the proteins which involve in base excision pair they are 1) DNA glycosylase 2)AP endonuclease 3)DNA polymerase 4) DNA ligase
