The order says 10 mg glipizide per dose, two times a day.

Each tablet contains 5 mg glipizide.

Number of tablets per dose = amount of drug per dose / amount of drug in each tablet = 10/5 = 2 tablets.

Hence the nurse should administer 2 tablets with each dose wherein each tablet contains 5 mg glipizide.

Glipizide is a sulfonylurea drug. It is an oral hypoglycemic drug. It blocks the potassium ATP channel of the beta cells of pancreas which brings about enhanced insulin secretion from the pancreas. This enhanced insulin secretion corrects the hyperglycemia. It's routinely used in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
