Associationism can be called as the forerunner of psychodynamic perspective with respect to the psychology subject. Associationism helped in understanding an association between the behavior of an organism and its environment which is linked directly to the causal history of the organism. Psychodynamics is one that deals with the childhood experience and hence associationism influenced psychodynamics. The primary contributors are John Locke, David Hartley and James Mill. James Locke introduced tabula rasa, David hartley introduced the theory of nerves and emotions. The human mind phenomena analysis by James mill was his contribution.
