What is different about the impact of affairs on a husband versus the impact of an affair on a wife? How would someone counsel the faithful partner in terms of the affair and the couple's on-going sexual relationship.
Although the society has been regarding men as having their natural rights over women and treating women as inferior for many centuries, today, atleast women in the developed countries enjoy greater freedom and equality just as men. However, if the woman is dependent on the husband, the husband would be able to force the wife to forgive him and ask her to continue to live with him but if both are financially independent and earn, it would become the decision of the wife. When children are involved, it would force the couple to stay together for the children’s sake. However, they may not be able to hold on to their normal relationship and engage in sex as they had before. Many women in the collective cultures accept their husbands even after they have an affair due to their dependency not only in terms of finance but also in terms of culture as it suggests that a woman should always respect and love her husband no matter how he behaves. If women have affair in collective cultures, they would be regarded as outclass and the husband wouldn’t tolerate it and the chances are less that he would accept her back. One of the most important things that lead to affairs is lack of sexual connection between the two. This would mean that when they do not have any intimate time, they would tend to look for attention elsewhere. Secondly, when they do not respect each other completely and accept them with all the positives as they did during the initial periods of their relationship, they wouldn’t be able to spice up their relationship. Thirdly, they need to find their own time in order to engage in quality time in terms of sharing, sex and mutual appreciation for the good things they had done.
