Creating Ethical Dilemma

A 30-year-old woman, Marry, went to her family doctor for pregnancy test. Her blood work result came up with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive. She did know that she had the virus with her, so she told her Dr. Alex that he should keep her information away from her husband, David. Her husband is best friend of the doctor.

Marry explained to the doctor that she had one-time sexual intercourse with stranger. She met the person at New Year’s Eve night club while they were dancing and they both were drunk. When she woke up the next morning she could not remember the guy who spent the night with, so she is sure that she got infected from him. She really wants to tell her husband about the good news that they are expecting new baby, but at the same she is worried that how his reaction would be after told him that she is infected.

The doctor promised her that he will not tell anyone, but he feels bad about her husband [friend], he does not want him to get infected with the virus, so he broke his promise, called the husband and told everything what is going on with his wife condition and advise him to not hurt 2 PROPOSAL her.

Is it ethical that the doctor releases his patient’s information to husband? Is it right to lie his patient?

HIV one of the most life killing infection of human being. Hiding anything to patient about their health condition yo them is not right, bit when it comes to infection like this which has to be definitely informed to close relative (spouse) yo be aware of it .It is ethical as per the government because it will be recorded for public safety. Besides the doctor being a friend he is responsible to inform this to patient headband

The key point to the issues is that she got infection through a stranger. The terms like HIV (human immuno deficiency virus) is used here

The controversy included here is her extramarital relationship, intending doctor to not disclose the infection to patient spouse

The original point of view being that she is pregnant and how to reveal this to her spouse that she is also HIV positive. As this could turn her life upside down.
