Addison's disease is a chronic pathological condition characterized by adrenal cortex insufficiency due to slow destruction of adrenal cortex.

The features of adrenocortical deficiency is mainly due to absence of glucocorticoid or cortisol but some features are due to absence of aldosterone also.

Feature due to lack of cortisol include

1. Anorexia, nausea and vomiting causing weight loss.
2. Confusion and weakening of muscles.
3. Pigmentation of skin due to stimulation of melanocytes by ACTH.
4. Decreased ability to withstand stress and decrease in blood cells such as neutrophils and RBCs.

Features due to lack of aldosterone include hypotension and water intoxication.
