What are the disadvantages of an Organization whose Senior Leadership at times is very metric-driven? How can aggressive sales quotas cause turn over at the workplace? Please explain?

A metric-driven culture being followed by the senior leadership in the organization can have merits but have many demerits to it too which can even cause the failure of business goals. Metric driven approach is where work is done over pre-set goals and strict deadlines and targets. These metrics are determined and set by senior management. There can be times when they are unreal which are impossible to achieve or are not in coordination with the business goals. Impractical or unreal goals can create an atmosphere of negativity and unproductive approach. Employees will be working hard on achieving the targets but being unable to do so will make them demotivated and uninterested towards work. This will affect their productivity adversely.

The leadership will be all about putting pressure on the team to get the outcomes which will diminish the environment of learning and development from the office culture. The work will be mechanic and employees will not show enthusiasm in doing it. They will just be completing tasks as duty and will not put in their full potential as they can with a motivated approach. Their objective will be limited to completing the work and not think of anything creative or innovative which can help in company growth. It can also open doors to malpractices. When the goals are not achieved, employees try to use fake information to show false figures to save their jobs and such practices can cost the company a lot.

Agressive sales qoutas can bring sales employees under immense pressure affecting their performance and life balance adversly. They will not be able to dleiver the targets which will force them to take steps such as quitting from the job. Working under pressure of agreesive goals cannot be handled by all employees. Thus the ones who cannot perform up to the mark will find themselves out of place and leave the job. Also employees working with agressive targets find themsleves so involved in completing those targets that their monotonous work does not allow them to learn anything new and help in career development. Such negative aspects of agreesive sales tagrtes can cause increased turnover at the workplace.
