Answer #1

A) Purpose of meiosis :

* Meiosis creates gametes

* Meiosis ensures haploid phase in the life cycle of sexually reproducing organisms whereas fertilisation restores the diploid phase.

*Conservation of specific chromosome number of each species is achieved across generations in sexually reproducing organisms.

*It also increases genetic variability in the population of organisms from one generation to the next, which is essential for the process of evolution.

B) Outcome of meiosis

Meiosis involves two sequential cycles of nuclear and cell divisions called meiosis 1 and meiosis 2

Meiosis 1 starts with one diploid parent cell and ends with two haploid daughter cells , halving the number of chromosomes in each cells.

Meiosis 2 starts with two haploid parent cells and end with 4 haploid daughter cells by maintaining the chromosome number in each cell.

In total, four haploid cells are produced at the end of meiosis
