Answer #1

1. Influenza virus contains 8 single stranded RNA segments and the viral particle consists of 2 major glycoproteins on its surface: hemagglutinin and neuraminidase. The single stranded RNA are negative-sense in nature i.e the non-coding strand is copied by the RNA polymerase to produce a translatable mRNA. This type of RNA is also known as minus strand RNA.

Therefore, the correct option is minus stranded RNA.

2. Persistent infection is the type of transmission in which the virus remains associated with the cell for a long time period without actively multiplying or killing it. This often occurs when the viral genome gets integrated into the host genome and sometime can occur without integration as well. This is a type of chronic infection. Persitent infection can be categorized into three types :

1. Virus genome persists within the cell without actual release of the virus like retrovirus.

2. The virus is released sporadically but remains in dormant or latent state for most of the time (herpes simplex)

3. The virus is released continuously without lysis of the host cell (hepatitis B virus)

So only in the latent state the virus is released sporadically. Therefore, the correct option is latency.
