Answer #1

Answer- Mitochondria are semi autonomous organelles because mitochondria depend on the cell, and the cells that contain mitochondria in turn depend on these organelles for oxidative phosphorylation.

The membrane potential is negative on the matrix side which attracts the positive charges to establish the electrochemical proton gradient. The mitochondria genome varies among species from 200 kbp -2000kbp.The inner membrane is only permeable to the gases and water but impermeable to the ions and small molecules in order to maintain the proton gradient that is used in the process of oxidative phopshorylation. The bacteria contains the ATP synthase at the inner plasmatic membrane.
