Lets calculate the Z score for both male and female using the formula:

Z = (X-Mu)/Stdev

Lets use the parameters given to us for Males and Females.

A female of 1600 g weight will have a Z -score of :

Z-score = (X-Mean)/Stdev = (1600-3094.1)/594.6 = -2.51

A male of 1600 g weight will have a Z -score of :

Z-score = (X-Mean)/Stdev = (1600-3212.5)/755.5 = -2.13

The more extreme score is the score of -2.51 , which is that of females.

Answer: Since the z score for the male is z = -2.51 and the z score for the female is z = -2.13 , the female has the weight that is more extreme.
