                             Create gain-of-function mutations in genes

CRISPR/Cas9 is the most modern genome editing tool adopted for deletion, addition, and alteration of DNA. Cas9 is a molecular scissor protein used to create site-specific cuts in DNA sequences. A piece of RNA called guide RNA will lead the Cas9 nuclease into the specific location of DNA. The double-strand cuts created by Cas9 will allow any deletion or addition of new DNA fragments.

CRISPR has nothing to do with cross over and recombination.
