All broken bones,whether due to being cut as a part of surgical procedure or fractured in an injury,goes through the same healing process which consists of the following three overlapping stages,in the progressing order of the healing process:

1. Inflammation -As soon as a bone is fractured or cut,inflammation starts to progress which lasts for several days.This inflammation is due to the bleeding into the area of fracture which eventually leads to the clotting of blood at the site of fracture or cut.The inflammation stage provides the initial structural stability and the framework required for producing new bone.
2. Bone Production -When the clotted blood formed in the inflammation stage is replaced by fibrous tissue and cartilage called as soft callus,the bone production begins and as the healing progresses the soft callus gets replaced with hard callus or the hard bone.It takes several weeks for the hard bone to form,which is usually confirmed by doing an X-ray test.
3. Bone Remodeling -This is the final stage of bone healing process which continues for several months and involves the formation of bone,becoming compact and restoring to its original shape.In addition to this,the circulation of blood around the area increases over time and once enough bone healing has occurred,weight bearing activities such as walking or standing helps in bone remodeling.
