Answer #1

49) A total of 38ATPs is formed from the aerobic metabolism of ne molecule of glucose. The process that producing 8 ATPs is:

Glycolysis.

since, glycolysis produces 2 ATPs and the 2 NADH produced in glycolysis in urn give rise to 6 ATPs, via Electron Transpor Chain.

50) The metabolic pathways of proteins, carohydrates and fatty acids:

  • Overlap in the TCA cycle through some of the catabolic intermediates
  • allow carbohydrates to be converted to amino acids.
  • allow fatty acids to be converted to lactic acid in anaerobic conditions
  • allow fatty acids to be converted to glucose-6-phosphate

All of the above are correct

51) The end product(s) of strict aerobic catabolism of protein are:

Water and Ammonia

Two of the above are correct.

52) Oxidative deamination liberates the amino group as ammonia and allows the deaminated portion of the amino acid to enter the carbohydrate pathway:

False

since, the deaminated portion of proteins enters the urea cycle.

Please explain your reasoning for each answer! Thank you. A significant number of children are born with muscle weakness and necrosis, hypoglycemia, elevated ammonia in the blood (hyperammonemia), fatigue and heart disorders. These children also may have elevated acyl-carnitine in their blood, muscle and liver. As a result, all newborns are tested for the condition that is the focus of this project.
