The student has to leave the protective environment of his/her school and move to a completely different arena. for many students, going to college involves moving to a different city which causes them to leave family and friends behind. This may trigger feelings of isolation and loneliness. These may also worsen into symptoms of anxiety and depression. College students have to take major students relating to their careers which may also be a reason for anxiety. Peer influences may cause certain individuals to start using and abusing substances. Some students may also start using substances as a coping mechanism.
