Tooth enamel is a very hard and is made of inorganic materials.The main components are calcium and phosphate ions.Enamel covers the entire teeth.95 % to 98% a of enamel is carbonated calcium and phosphate ions that make up hydroxypaite crystals.It also contain 1% to 2% of organic materials like proteins called enamelins .Enamel is formed from epithelial cells called ameloblasts.Tooth enamel is hardest structure in the body.When tooth enamel is overexposed to acids ,it can destroy and cause erosion in tooth enamel.When we consume foods and beverages like soft drinks,fruit drinks that contain high levels of acids dissolves and destroy the tooth enamel.Repeated acid attack can cause the lose of minerals from enamel.This can cause cavities in teeth.Tooth erosion can cause yellow discoloration to teeth,Pain or sensitivity while consuming hot or cold drinks etc.
