It has been observed that the back end operation management department’s employees are taking excessive leaves by putting any kind of reasons to the managers and sometimes, if the leaves are not granted, then they are found to remain absent in the company without informing the manager or the supervisor. This is highly hindering the operational performance of the restaurant and the work of operation department is required to be distributed among the employees who are present in the company. This is increasing the load and hence the stress among the employee who are punctual. It also requires the department to work overtime and their schedule is often seemed to be mismanaged as a result of absenteeism.

This trend of absenteeism is highly impacting the business. Although organisation deducts the salary and the benefits of the employees who remain absent, it is creating mismanagement in the department and is also affecting the culture of the restaurant. This behaviour of the employees is also having the negative effect on those employees who are motivated and are dedicated to their work. Increased workload of the employees is decreasing their productivity and this trend is affecting the schedules of other department as well. Mismanagement of the schedule of operation department is resulting into the disturbances in the schedule of the procurement department. As the work of the operation department generally runs backlogged, purchasing department cannot take the quick decisions. As a result of this, whole supply chain of the restaurant is getting affected and it is posing a threat to the customer satisfaction and services being offered to them.

Recommendations:

1. Manager of the operation department should give a warning to the employees who remain absent without the serious problems and should assert that if they go on unnecessary leave, then restaurant would find the better employee for their role.

2. Manager of the company should redesign the policies and regulations related to the discipline among the employees and should include a clause in the offer letter while selecting them that if they indulge in breaking of any of the rules mentioned in the offer letter, they will be terminated from the job.

3. Manager of the company should keep trainee staff as a buffer so as to handover the work of the employees who are absent because of some genuine reasons.

4. Manager should conduct a survey of those employees who are remaining absent in the job more frequently so as to identify the reason behind their absenteeism.
