The Scenario and Your Task

Dooms College, which you attend, has recently been experiencing unprecedented growth. Student enrolment has been up for five years in a row, research and donation money has been on the increase, and the number of international students applying for college admission is also up. The board of directors of your college has asked the director of development to look into the idea of planning a small satellite campus in an outlying area of the city. The question is, where to locate the satellite campus?

Your Task. Using your college as the institutional example for this report, research and write a formal report offering a recommendation about where to locate a satellite campus. What components (e.g., locations) will you choose to structure your report? What criteria would be important to the Board of Directors? Price of land? Proximity to public transportation? Proximity to other institutions? Proximity to a large population base? Where will you find data on these criteria?

INTRODUCTION :

Setting up of a satellite campus has become a need of the hour after seeing the current scenario of the Dooms College. Since number of enrollment has increased and international students too have started to take up admission, its a wise decision to set up a satellite college. This report will look and come up with optimum solutions as to where to locate a satellite campus which will reap maximum benefit both to the management as well as students.

ANALYSIS OF SITUATION :

To come up with the most optimum location, many factors needs to be taken into consideration. Firstly, by studying how many students are localites and how many are outsiders, we have option of setting up the satellite campus around 15-30 kilometers away from the main campus of Dooms College. Locating anywhere between 15-30 kilometers will be beneficial for those who are outsiders and those who travel from far away places to reach college everyday.

The criteria of price of land will definitely matter but since we will be locating in the 15-30 kilometers area away from our main campus, thus the prices will not vary much and also after seeing hikes in enrollment and admissions, this cost will be borne by the college without any issue whatsoever. The main factor of deciding the location of satellite area is whether it should be in the proximity of public transport, other institutions or large population base. According to our study, many students in our college come from far away places and also many are outsiders. By looking at this, we have come on to the decision of locating our satellite campus near the proximity to public transport. This will make easier for those who has to travel to far away places and by choosing this location many more students can later on come in our college by seeing how easy it is to travel and reach college. It will save student's precious time and also will be easier to go to places without travelling and spending too much money on travelling.

Another advantage of locating near proximity to public transport is that many people commute everyday to from one place to another. By seeing college campus near to public transport will automatically create more awareness and thus will be good for the college too.

The challenges that may be caused in locating near public transport can be that it might be too much of a busy area for students to study. Therefore, in order to deal with such a case, we need to have such an infrastructure which is at a safe distance from main public area and also the students finds no hindrance in studying.

OPTIMUM SOLUTION :

Thus, after analysis, the most suitable solution is to locate the satellite campus near 15-30 kilometers away from the main campus so that it is not so far away and also becomes easy fro those students who travel a lot everyday. Thus, keeping this into consideration, the best area would be near proximity to public transport.
