Answer #1

Ans. (c) Directional selection

In population genetics, it is considered as a mode of positive naural selection in which the extreme phenotypes are supported over the average phenotypes and this causes the allele frequency to shift over times in a particular direction. The classic example of directional selection is the peppered moth evolution in England prior to the industrial revolution.

Use the Natural Selection interactive, select the light brown background, and advance the interactive until the end of the trial. Considering the inheritance of color in these beetles, could the population of beetles ever be composed of only light brown beetles? The entire population of beetles could be light brown because directional selection will occur and one allele will be favored over the other. The entire population of beetles could be light brown because their increased fitness In the O...

Part B - How does this research relate to your biology course? The following graph shows the frequency distribution of a heritable trait -- fur color -- in a hypothetical deer mouse population. The x-axis represents variation in fur color from light to dark. The y-axis represents the percentage of individuals in the population with each particular color of fur. 333 There are three ways in which natural selection can alter the frequency distribution of a heritable trait, such as...

Also, explain why a trait evolves in a population as a result of these 4 criteria being met (in other words, provide a clear and detailed explanation of why the Irequency of a phenotypic trait would increase across generations as a result of these 4 criteria being...

Evolution: (taken from "Easier Being Green" in National Geographic) The oblong-winged species of katydids was discovered in 1770's. Although the majority of katydids are green, a fraction displays unique bright colors of yellow, orange and hot pink. Entomologists belief the colors are symptoms of erythrism, an anomaly similar to albinism. Although the hot pink color is the dominant trait, these individuals are by far the fewest in number, closely followed by the orange and yellow. The green katydids, even though...
