Question

ans : (e) weather the hyphae have cross walls or lack cross walls.

Fungus

They are complex eukaryotic organisms which can range from unicellular to multicellular Or microscopic to macroscopic in size and appearance. They are classified under separate kingdom named Fungi. They are heterotrophs ( depending on other organisms for food) usually feed on dead or decayed organic matter hence predominantly Saprozoic. Few fungi are beneficial whereas few act as opportunistic pathogens causing illness.

Body characteristics

  • Body of fungi usually called as Molds are made up of numerous thin, branching filaments called as Hyphae.
  • These Hyphae overlaps and intertwine to give a mesh like appearance called as Mycelium
  • In some fungus hyphae may have thin cross walls between the cells known as Septate and others with no separation or walls in hyphae are called nonseptate or coenocytic hyphae.
  • Nonseptate have one cell with many nucleus and are the primitive forms.
  • cell wall of fungus are composed of chitin unlike cellulose in plants.

Reproduction

  • Vegetative propagation : methods of vegetative propagation are fragmentation, binary fission, budding
  • sexual :
  • asexual : by producing spores

Question 2 2 pts Among sac fungi, which of these correctly distinguishes ascospores from conidia? Ascospores are diploid, whereas conidia are haploid. Ascospores are genetically different, whereas conidia are genetically identical. Ascospores are larger, whereas conidia are smaller. Ascospores will germinate into haploid hyphae, whereas conidia will germinate into diploid hyphae. When trying to differentiate between septate hyphae and nonseptate hyphae, one should be observing o whether the mycelia has undergone plasmogamy or karyogamy. whether the spores are born in...
