Interprofessional nursing management includes-

  • Frequent neurological assessment.
  • Monitor temperature and vitals.
  • Monitor mean arterial pressure (MAP) and cerebral perfusion pressure.
  • Try to avoid sedatives and CNS depressants.
  • Monitor electrolytes and urine output because mannitol will be given to decrease Intracranial tension.
  • Assess vision .
  • Minimise intracranial pressure by elevating the leg , elevation of head upto 30 degrees.
  • Administering medications - osmotic diuretics and hypertonic saline to decrease edema , corticosteroid to decrease inflammation.
  • Lumbar punctures can be done to drain some CSF and can decrease pressure .
  • Surgeries like craniectomy for creating some space can be done and external ventricular drain can be placed.
  • Ventriculo peritoneal shunt can be also done to drain excess CSF.
