" Nobel Prize Laureate : MARIE CURIE "

Marie Curie became the first female to win a Nobel Prize and the first person — man or lady — to win the award twice. With her husband Pierre Curie, Marie's efforts led to the discovery of polonium and radium and, after Pierre's death, the further development of X-rays. The famed scientist died in 1934 of aplastic anemia probably induced by prolonged exposure to radiation.

Discoveries by Marie curie -
Curie observed radioactivity, and, collectively with her husband Pierre, the radioactive factors polonium and radium whilst working with the mineral pitchblende. She additionally championed the improvement of X-rays after Pierre's death.
Radioactivity, Polonium and Radium
Fascinated with the work of Henri Becquerel, a French physicist who observed that uranium casts off rays weaker than the X-rays observed via Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, Curie took his work a few steps further.
Curie performed her very own experiments on uranium rays and determined that they remained constant, no matter the circumstance or shape of the uranium. The rays, she theorized, got here from the element's atomic structure. This innovative thinking created the subject of atomic physics. Curie herself coined the phrase "radioactivity" to describe the phenomena.

Following Curie’s discovery of radioactivity, she persevered her lookup with her husband Pierre. Working with the mineral pitchblende, the pair found a new radioactive component in 1898. They named the component polonium, after Curie's native united states of Poland.

They additionally detected the presence of any other radioactive cloth in the pitchblende and known as that radium. In 1902, the Curies introduced that they had produced a decigram of pure radium, demonstrating its existence as a special chemical element.

Development of X-rays
When World War I broke out in 1914, Curie dedicated her time and sources to assist the cause. She championed the use of transportable X-ray machines in the field, and these clinical cars earned the nickname "Little Curies."

After the war, Curie used her movie star to increase her research. She traveled to the United States twice — in 1921 and in 1929 — to increase dollars to purchase radium and to set up a radium lookup institute in Warsaw.

Marie Curie's Nobel Prizes
Curie gained two Nobel Prizes, for physics in 1903 and for chemistry in 1911. She was once the first lady to win a Nobel Prize as nicely as the first person—man or woman—to win the prestigious award twice. She stays the solely individual to be honored for accomplishments in two separate sciences.
Curie acquired the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903, alongside with her husband and Henri Becquerel, for their work on radioactivity. With their win, the Curies developed an global recognition for their scientific efforts, and they used their prize cash to proceed their research.
In 1911, Curie received her 2d Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry, for her discovery of radium and polonium. While she obtained the prize alone, she shared the honor mutually with her late husband in her acceptance lecture.
Around this time, Curie joined with different well-known scientists, together with Albert Einstein and Max Planck, to attend the first Solvay Congress in Physics and talk about the many groundbreaking discoveries in their field.

Death
Curie died on July 4, 1934, of aplastic anemia, believed to be triggered by way of extended publicity to radiation.
She was once regarded to elevate take a look at tubes of radium round in the pocket of her lab coat. Her many years working with radioactive substances took a toll on her health.

Marie Curie's Legacy
Curie made many breakthroughs in her lifetime. Remembered as a main parent in science and a position mannequin for women, she has acquired severa posthumous honors. Several academic and lookup establishments and scientific facilities endure the Curie name, inclusive of the Curie Institute and Pierre and Marie Curie University (UPMC).
In 1995, Marie and Pierre's stays have been interred in the Panthéon in Paris, the ultimate resting area of France's best minds. Marie grew to become the first and one of solely 5 girls to be laid to relaxation there. In 2017, the Panthéon hosted an exhibition to honor the one hundred and fiftieth birthday of the pioneering scientist.

"I have selected Marie curie in my assignment because she is truly a role model. Her struggle is very inspiring. She taught how to defy the odds and stand out apart from all. She is an exemplary personality for generations to come."

Feedback :- Yes it assisted me in giving a better understanding of history of chemistry. How in early days scientist struggled , resources were less and safety measures were also low. As in case of Marie curie pronote exposure to radiation led to her death. Really I learnt many new things during this assignment.
