The reasons why I chose these two students for the scholarship are-
In the case of Scott Baker, he’s been having a bad life and with that state of mental health he managed to score A’s in his senior year which shows that he’s really interested in making his life better and striving to work hard. Showing empathy towards people who go through rough times is the nature of any kind human, in his case he may have scored lower grades in the starting of his school but he’s improved a lot. And living alone with no known family or guidance in this world is really tough. With all the bullying on top of it, this scholarship can help him study well, communicate well with others and become successful as it’s hard for a student to support himself, his studies and to pay all the bills. It’ll be a great opportunity for him to have some company of others and I’m able to understand his situation. In the case of Carman Costozo, being a refugee is always hard. With no one in her family working, and being away from most of them makes it a very difficult situation to support for education. Financial aid is necessary in order for her to study further. Moreover she’s been an average student amidst the crisis, she can improve a lot more given the support. She’s good at a sport as well and majoring in her interest of subject can lead to more opportunities in her way. Staying away from home, and living the refugee life can take time to adjust but they deserve to grow and such opportunities are to be given. She would be able to support her family who are not in a very good condition as of now. Such students strive for success, and we being scholarship givers should take all the situations they’re facing into consideration. Giving such opportunities to those who are in need rather than those who are already privileged kids can make a huge difference. I took this decision as being an emotional person who could communicate and learn new things about people everyday, I could put myself in their shoes and know how deserving they’re to have this scholarship. Emotional intelligence is something which every human should possess in order to understand other’s emotions and feelings which in turn helps in communicating. I want them both to have a better life.
