Questions:

As department manager, you wish to inform four employees about a training session scheduled for three weeks from now.
As assistant to the vice president, you are to investigate the possibility of developing work placement programs with several nearby colleges and universities. You are expected to present a large amount of information.
You wish to send a list of prices for several products in response to a request from a potential customer in Taiwan.
You must respond to a notice from the Canada Revenue Agency insisting that you did not pay the correct amount for last year's income taxes.
As a manager, you must inform an employee that she is in danger of losing her job because of continued lateness.
Members of your task force must meet to discuss ways to improve communication among 500 employees at 12 branches of your company. Task force members are from Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Regina and Halifax.
You need to know whether Davinder in Printing can produce a special pamphlet for you within two days.

Suitable communication channels for the above mentioned questions (answered in order) are :

1. Downward, or Top-down communication, this falls under Formal Communication - Here, the most suitable communication channel is Downward or Top-Down Communication because as the communication is between department manager and his employees. This communication flow is used by the managers to transmit work-related information to the employees at lower levels.

2. Informal external communication - is the sum of both: casual communication without a formal structure, either spoken or written, that takes places with someone not directly related to your business. External communication is any communication that occurs with someone who is outside of your business.

Different types of external communication are:

a. Content of website and blogging

b. Conferences and live consorts

c. Email and newsletters

d. Social media

Here, the most suitable mode of presenting large amount of volume is through Email and Newsletters.Because it is the most effective out of all.

3. External communication - is any communication between a member of your company and someone outside of your company. When you talk to a customer, send an email to a potential client or call a supplier about an order, you are doing external communication.

The most suitable mode of external communication here is Email. Because, there is no time delay and replies can be done easily.

4.External Communication - Here, as the government agency is interacting with the business an external communication.

5.Downward, or Top-down communication - When leaders and managers share information with lower-level employees, it’s called downward, or top-down communication. In other words, communication from superiors to subordinates in a chain of command is a downward communication. This falls under Formal communication .

6.As it is a formal procedure this falls under Formal Communication. As the Task force members are in different places communication can be made through Web-based communications and it includes discussions so we should opt for a live-intercative mode and the most suitable is Video Conferencing (Conference Call) .

7. Horizontal communication - also called lateral communication, involves the flow of messages between individuals and groups on the same level of an organization. Horizontal communication occurs formally in meetings, presentations, and formal electronic communication, and informally in other, more casual exchanges within the office.
