The Kidd blood group in primates is inherited as a single gene with 2 Codominant alleles (Jka and Jkb).

We would like to verify that this locus actually follows simple Mendelian inheritance with codominant alleles in gibbons.

We have a pure breeding population of Type Jka & a pure breeding population of Type Jkb.

We create an F2 population and test for the antigens.

Jka: 41 Jka Jkb: 56 Jkb: 35

Perform a chi square analysis on this data using the following hypothesis: The mode of inheritance for the Kidd blood group in gibbons is simple Mendelian with codominant alleles. Calculate the chi square value and place it in the space below. Round to three decimal places.

In simple Mendelian inheritance alleles display a simple dominant/recessive relationship. There are many exceptions to Mendelian laws of inheritance. Most genes have more than two allelic forms and do not exhibit simple Mendelian inheritance. The human ABO antigens are an example of a multiple allelic trait. There are three ABO blood group antigens, IA, IB and i. The i allele is recessive to both IA and IB. A person who is homozygous ii has type O blood and does not...

A gene for the MN blood group has codominant alleles M and N. If both children in a family are of blood type M, which of the following situations is possible? OA) Each parent is either Mor MN. OB) Both children are heterozygous for this gene. OC) Each parent must be type M. OD) Neither parent can have the N allele.

Tired of watering his garden, your instructor is attempting to grow desert plants. One such plant is Indian paintbrush. A yellow variant has shown up, and we would like to determine if this variant is a Mendelian trait. We have taken a pure breeding red plant and crossed it with a pure breeding yellow plant. The resulting F1 plants were selfed and the F2 data is presented below: Red Flowers 299 Yellow Flowers 63 Perform a chi-square analysis on this...

On the island of Notion, in the Factotum Archipelago, there lives a population of pencil bears. A portion of these bears have silky fur, and as a result, are much better surfers. The texture of the fur is determined by a single autosomal locus with two alleles: S (trait allele) and s (wild type allele). In a recent study, researched collected the values in the following table: Table 1. Counts of Pencil Bear fur style by genotype Phenotype Genotype Silky...

There are three main alleles in the ABO blood group system - IA, IB, and i. We've talked about the ABO system in class, you can find a brief explanation below and here. The I gene encodes for a glycosyltransferase that modifies at the H antigen. The glycosyltransferase encoded by IA adds an 'A' sugar group to antigen H, the glycosyltransferase encoded by IB adds a 'B' sugar group and i encodes an inactive glycosyltransferase that leaves the H antigen...
