Two parasites are found in a population of primates. Parasite 1 is an ectoparasite that can survive for up to 2 weeks off of the host. Parasite 2 is an endoparasite that can survive for 1 day outside of the host, but only in ideal conditions. How would the patterns and mode of spread differ between the two parasite species? What kinds of social behaviors (of the host) would make these parasites more or less successful?

Ectoparasite is mostly arthropod organisms where as endoparasite which live inside the body in blood and intestinal or other region and they belong to protozoan or helminthes group of organism. Both are having different survival and proliferation rate, endoparasite multiply more rapidly as compared to Ectoparasites. Ectoparasites normally spread through dust particle or physical interaction like tactile communication where as endoparasite transmit through features, contaminated water or through mosquito or other insect bite.

Primate exhibits great social behaviour and by this behavior (altruism), they remove Ectoparasite (lice, an arthropod ectoparasite) of one animal and vice versa. Therefore, Ectoparasite would be less successful as compared to endoparasites.
