Posterior cavity refers to posterior fossa. Posterior fossa is an area in the brain that is found in the bottom area of the skull. This area is found close to brain stem and the cerebellum. This area is very important as any tumor here will block the fluid flow in spinal canal and will lead to an increase in the intracranial pressure.
