Answer #1

Charophyte is a group of freshwater algae. It is a photosynthetic alga. So, it has chloroplast like land plants. Land plant and charophyte both have chloroplasts and performing photosynthesis.

Waterproof skin prevents the loss of water from the skin since charophyte lives in water, so there is no need to prevent water loss, as the lost water can be recovered from the water. But land plant needs to conserve the water, otherwise, it will lose water. In the land plant, water is conserved by a layer of cuticle, or by bark.

So correct answer is option C -Land plants are distinguished from charophyte green algae by having relatively waterproof skin.
