Role of artificial Intelligence in Business

Producing machines which possess the ability of thinking, making decisions and problem solving by learning is the science of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the father of Artificial Intelligence John McCarthy, who was an American computer scientist pioneer and inventor, artificial intelligence is "The science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs”.

The dominant fields in which AI is prevalent are Gaming - where the significant role is for the machine to rig a large number of possible positions based on heuristic knowledge; Natural Language Processing - interacting with a computer that understands language spoken; Expert Systems - applications which integrate machine, software, and special information to impart reasoning and advising based on the inputs; Vision Systems – systems understanding, interpreting, and comprehending visual inputs on the computer, for example doctors using clinical expert systems to diagnose patients; Speech Recognition - intelligent systems capable of hearing and comprehending language in terms of sentences and their meanings; Handwriting Recognition - software reading text written on paper by a pen or on screen by a stylus and can recognizing shapes of letters and converting them into editable text; and Intelligent Robots – who are able to perform tasks given and have efficient processors, multiple sensors and huge memory to exhibit intelligence.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) aims to create machines capable of general intelligent action which seems to be the future of business. The likes of Elon Musk, Bill Gates and even Stephen Hawking have suggested that AI could bring about an apocalypse that sees the end of human civilization, or even that of the human race.
