This week's discussion is an application assignment. I want you to create your own survey. When conducting research, sometimes creating your survey instrument is the most tedious and time-consuming activity.

For this week, let's keep things simple and say that you are conducting exploratory research on student perception/satisfaction of college textbooks--essentially, do students like their textbooks, dislike their textbooks, or not have an opinion about their textbooks. There are many questions to ask that may affect textbook perception/satisfaction. The genesis of this idea came from a discussion with one of my top students, a business major. She commented that one of her textbooks was completely useless in helping her to understand much of the course material.

Use all the question types mentioned in your text and in my PowerPoints--except the bad survey question types of course. For example, include demographic questions, open-ended questions, close-ended questions, and matrix questions. A few hints may get you started with your question generation: student major/minor, textbook publisher, textbook length, e-textbook versus physical copy, and of course, textbook price. As a consumer, do you expect better textbooks if they cost more?

Because we are conducting exploratory research, we are not only pretesting our questionnaire, but also we are looking for salient variables to surface. Thus, we will be able to create an even better questionnaire for our descriptive and causal research. The assumption for this assignment is that you are giving it to a select group of students for an exploratory purpose.

Your survey must be a minimum of 10 questions. Please upload it into the board as a Word document.
