PMC (Polymer Matrix composites) are advanced materials consisting of a polymer Matrix (base material) reinforced by fibers. The fibers provide stiffness to the otherwise largely elastic polymer , thus increasing its stiffness as well as strength. As visible from the chart, the PMC region is way above the polymer region, displaying greater Young's modulus thus greater strength and wider applicability in engineering uses. Also the range of PMC suggests that it can be used as in the linear range as well as for high strength applications.
