Describe the role of energy molecules in muscle contraction and their formation by aerobic and anaerobic processes and factors that contribute to fatigue.

ATP Production in Aerobic exercise

During day to day activities and light exercises, the ATP production by the mitochondria present in muscles this process is called aerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration utilizes the oxygen to break down into food energy i.e.into glucose and fat to generate ATP for muscular contractions. The respiration produces large amounts of ATP and is an effect for making ATP. More than 38 ATP molecules can be produced for every glucose molecule i.e. broken down. Utilization of large amounts of oxygen and can be carried out over long periods of time. With raising level of activity increases, breathing rate increases that supplies more and more oxygen for increased ATP formation.

ATP Production during Anaerobic exercises

Anaerobic respiration or also called anaerobic glycolysis occurs when muscles quickly contract, as happens during vigorous exercise, oxygen cannot able to travel to the muscle cells fast that is not enough to keep up with the muscles’ need for ATP. At that point, muscles can switch to a breakdown process and that process does not require oxygen. There is the breaking of energy stores that are in the absence of oxygen to produce ATP.

Two molecules of ATP for every single molecule of glucose is produce during Anaerobic glycolysis so That it is a less efficient process than aerobic metabolism. However, anaerobic glycolysis produces ATP about 2.5 times faster than aerobic respiration does. When large amounts of ATP requirements for short periods of vigorous activity, glycolysis can provide most of the ATP that is needed.

In muscle, the glycogen that is the form of stored glucose depletion of energy for muscle cells, and the lactic acid accumulation, which is produced by the glucose breakdown process, is the cause of muscle fatigue
