Often, sidewalks that are 8 ft wide have a 4 ft wide ramp where they transition to a crosswalk. Explain why this is either consistent or inconsistent with the principle of universal design.

It is consistent with the universal design. It is done so the differently abled people can climb up the sidewalk from crosswalk and use it. This is the reason ramp is provided at that intersection
