i) _________ True or False. A force with a strength of 50 Newtons acts on two different objects: a car and a truck. Because the force on the truck is the same as the force on the car, both vehicles will experience the same acceleration. Explain your reasoning.

ii) Give an example of rotational motion.

iii) When the net torque on an object is zero, the object will

            a) continue to spin in the same direction (clockwise or counterclockwise)

            b) spin at a constant speed

            c) both a and b

            d) neither a or b

iiii) True or False _________ If a Ferris wheel is at rest, then the angular velocity is constant. Explain your reasoning.

iiiii) True or False _________ A top is spinning at a constant speed. Because the top is spinning, it must be experiencing a torque. Explain your reasoning.

iiiiii) What happens when you apply a torque to an object at rest?

Answer #1

Sol:

i) false, because acceleration is inversely proportional to mass when a force is applied since the mass of truck is larger than car so the truck will experience less acceleration, as a=F/m

Where a is acceleration , F is applied force and m is the mass on which force is applied.

ii) merry go round is an example of rotational motion .

iii) if the net torque is zero on an object it implies that angular acceleration is zero which in turn implies constant angular velocity.

so (c) both a and b is correct , since it have constant angular speed and it will rotate with this angular speed.

iii) true , at rest its velocity in not changing that is it have zero angular velocity .

iv) false , since the top is spinning with constant speed its angular acceleration is zero hence the torque acting on it is zero.

v) when we appy torque on a body it will rotate a body which is at rest or it will stop a rotating body depending on direction of torque.
